Let me say something that might change the way you see your body forever.
Hormones are not the problem.
I know that's not what you've been told. You've probably been handed a lab result, maybe a prescription, maybe just a shrug ... and sent home with the message that your hormones are "off" and that's just how it is.
But here's what I need you to understand as someone who has studied biochemistry and spent years working with plant medicine and real women's bodies:
Your hormones are not betraying you. They are talking to you.
Every mood swing, every sleepless night, every breakout along your jaw, every time your cycle comes early or your belly bloats for no reason ... that is your body running a communication system so intelligent, most of medicine doesn't even stop to listen to it.
We're going to change that today.
So What Actually Is Estrogen Dominance?
It's not just "too much estrogen." I want to be really clear about this because the oversimplification is part of why so many women stay stuck.
Estrogen dominance is a ratio problem :Â a relationship imbalance between estrogen and progesterone.
You can have totally normal estrogen levels and still be estrogen dominant if your progesterone is low. You can have high estrogen with normal progesterone. Or both can be happening at the same time.
What matters is how these two hormones relate to each other.
Think of it this way ... progesterone is your calm, steady, nurturing hormone. Estrogen is your stimulating, growth-driving, proliferating hormone. When estrogen is outweighing progesterone, your body shifts into an inflamed, overstimulated, and unstable state.
And you feel every bit of it.
Does Any of This Sound Familiar?
Heavy periods with clots. Cycles getting shorter and shorter. Breast tenderness that makes you not want to be touched. Bloating that shows up out of nowhere. Anxiety that spikes before your period. Waking up at 2, 3, 4 in the morning and just lying there. Breakouts along your jaw right before your cycle. Weight that settles in your hips, thighs, and lower belly no matter what you do. Brain fog so thick you feel like you're moving through water.
I hear this from women every single day.
And the most important thing I can tell you is this: those are not random symptoms.
That is a pattern. And patterns have roots.
Here's What's Actually Going On
Your hormones don't just do whatever they want. They are the end result of multiple body systems working together ... or not working together.
When those systems are under stress, depleted, or toxic, your hormones reflect it. They aren't the cause. They're the signal.
There are four core systems I look at when someone comes to me with hormone imbalance. If even one of these is off, you will feel it hormonally.
1. Your Nervous System
This is the foundation of everything. If your body is living in chronic stress ... and most of our bodies are, whether we feel "stressed" or not ... your system is in survival mode.
Here's the biochemistry: cortisol and progesterone are made from the same building blocks. When your body is under stress, it steals those raw materials to keep pumping out cortisol. Progesterone gets left behind. Estrogen rises in relation. This is called the progesterone steal, and it is one of the most common and most overlooked drivers of estrogen dominance.
You cannot hormone-balance your way out of a dysregulated nervous system.
It has to be addresed first.
2. Your Liver
Your liver is your estrogen detox organ. When it's sluggish ; from processed foods, environmental toxins, alcohol, stress, or just being chronically overwhelmed ... estrogen doesn't get properly broken down. It recirculates. It builds up. It dominates.
No herb, no supplement, no protocol works the way it should if your liver isn't being supported. This is one of the pieces most people skip entirely.
3. Your Gut
Inside your gut lives something called the estrobolome ; a specific community of bacteria whose entire job is to regulate estrogen elimination. When the gut is imbalanced, those bacteria reactivate estrogen that was already on its way out of your body. It gets reabsorbed. It goes right back into circulation.
So you end up in this cycle: your body tries to clear estrogen, the gut recycles it back in, and nothing actually changes ... no matter how many things you try.
This is why I always say gut health and hormone health are the same conversation.
4. Your Minerals
This is the piece that gets almost zero attention and it drives me a little crazy honestly.
Your hormones cannot do their jobs without minerals. Magnesium, zinc, iron, B vitamins ; these are the raw materials your body needs for ovulation, for progesterone production, for stress resilience. When you're depleted ... and most women are depleted ... ovulation becomes inconsistent, progesterone tanks, and your whole cycle starts to unravel.
Depletion looks like hormone imbalance. Always has.
What This Means for You
You cannot heal your hormones without calming your nervous system. You cannot balance estrogen without supporting your liver. You cannot regulate your cycle without replenishing your minerals. You cannot chase symptoms and expect to find roots.
This is what root-cause healing actually looks like. Not a hormone pill. Not a band-aid. A full system approach.
How I Use Herbs to Support All of This
This is where plant medicine becomes something truly powerful ... when you understand what you're doing and why.
The goal with herbal support is never to force your hormones into balance. It's to give your body's own systems what they need to do it themselves.
If you'd rather have this formula made with carefully sourced, wildcrafted botanicals, the WildSynergy Hormone Balance Tincture is available here. But I always share the recipe too and how to make it at home because that's just how we do things here at WildSynergy
🌿 Hormone Balance Tincture — Make It Yourself
This formula works across all four systems we talked about. Every single herb in it has a purpose.
Ingredients (by weight)
58 g Vitex (chaste berry) 35 g Nettle leaf 23 g Raspberry leaf 23 g Dandelion leaf 23 g Burdock root 23 g Oatstraw 23 g Lemon balm 23 g Spearmint
How to Make It
Step 1 — Alcohol Extraction Combine your herbs in a jar. Pour in 700 mL of 151-proof alcohol. Let it sit for 4–6 weeks, shaking regularly.Â
Step 2 — Water Extraction Strain your alcohol tincture and set the liquid aside. Take those spent herbs and simmer them in 450–500 mL of water on low heat for 30–45 minutes. Strain.
Step 3 — Combine Mix 70% of your alcohol extract with 30% of your water extract.
This dual-extraction method matters. The alcohol pulls the hormonal signaling compounds. The water pulls the minerals and polysaccharides. You want both.
Why Each Herb Is in Here
Vitex works directly on your pituitary gland to increase luteinizing hormone (LH) — which is what signals your body to produce progesterone. This is the anchor of the formula.
Nettle leaf is one of the most mineral-dense plants on earth. Iron, magnesium, silica — it feeds your adrenals and gives your hormones the raw materials they need.
Raspberry leaf tones and supports the uterus. If your cycles have been heavy, irregular, or painful, this one is doing quiet but important work.
Dandelion leaf stimulates bile production, which is one of the main pathways your liver uses to clear estrogen. Simple, foundational, underrated.
Burdock root is a blood purifier. It helps bind toxins and reduce the overall burden on your detox pathways — which means less estrogen recirculation.
Oatstraw is nervous system medicine. Deep, slow, restorative nourishment for an overtaxed stress response. This is the one that helps you actually feel different.
Lemon balm works through GABA pathways — the same system your body uses to calm anxiety and lower cortisol. If you wake up at 3 AM with a racing mind, pay attention to this one.
Spearmint helps bring down excess androgens, which often run alongside estrogen dominance — especially if hormonal acne is part of your picture.
(If sourcing all eight herbs feels like a project right now, I do make this formula in small batches using wildcrafted botanicals — you can find it in the apothecary when it's available. But please make it yourself if you can. There's something powerful about that.)
How to Take It
1–2 dropper (about 1–2 mL) twice a day, morning and afternoon. Take it consistently. This is not a one-week fix — this is you rebuilding a system.
Don't want to make it yourself? Grab the ready-made version here — same formula, same intention, just done for you.
What the Healing Actually Looks Like
I want to be honest with you about timing, because I think false promises do more harm than good.
In the first one to two weeks, most people notice their nervous system starting to settle. Sleep usually shifts first.
By weeks three and four, the bloating starts to ease. Mood becomes more predictable. Energy steadies out.
Between weeks four and eight, cycles begin to regulate. PMS symptoms soften. The patterns start to change.
By months two and three, you start to feel like yourself again. Skin, mood, energy, clarity ... it comes back. Not all at once, but steadily.
This is what healing looks like when you work with your body instead of against it.
The Last Thing I Want to Leave You With
Your body is not broken. I need you to really hear that.
It is doing exactly what it was designed to do ... responding to the environment you're living in. When that environment is stressful, toxic, or depleted, your hormones reflect it. When you start shifting the environment, they shift too.
Support your nervous system. Protect your liver. Feed your body minerals. Use plants with intention.
You don't have to fix your hormones. You have to give your body what it needs — and then get out of the way.
That's where real healing lives.
